What Will Your Teen Learn?

Our program is organized into six key areas that guide young artists from discovering their creative style to building a foundation for their future.

1. Explore & Develop Their Art

Every artist has a unique creative voice. We'll help students discover theirs!

Students will explore different artistic mediums and techniques, identify their favorite subjects and themes, find inspiration from established artists, and develop their personal artistic strengths. They'll also learn the importance of keeping a sketchbook and setting creative goals.

2. Build a Professional Art Portfolio

A strong portfolio is one of the most valuable tools an aspiring artist can have.

Students will select their strongest pieces, create new portfolio-worthy artwork, learn how to photograph their creations professionally, and organize both physical and digital portfolios. They'll also learn how to title and present their work with confidence.

3. Create Their Own Artist Brand

It's never too early to start thinking like a creative entrepreneur!

We'll guide students through choosing an artist name, writing a short artist biography and statement, developing a signature style or logo, creating an artist profile photo, and designing professional business cards.

​

Their first stack of custom business cards is included at no additional cost!

​

4. Turn Artwork Into Prints & Products

Students will learn how to transform their original creations into products they can share and sell!

This includes selecting artwork for reproduction, preparing digital files for printing, understanding print sizes and paper types, packaging and signing artwork, and exploring products like stickers and other creative merchandise.

​

We'll also introduce the basics of pricing their work and creating a simple product price list.

​

5. Build Their Online Presence

Today's artists need a way to showcase their creativity beyond the studio.

Students will receive guidance on creating their own artist website, complete with a homepage, online portfolio or gallery, artist bio, artwork descriptions, and contact information.

​

They'll learn how to present their work professionally online and keep their digital portfolio updated as their skills grow.

​

6. Explore Real-World Art & Career Opportunities

This is where creativity meets opportunity!

We want students to experience what it's like to share their talent with the world. Our program introduces them to:

• Local markets & vendor events: Opportunities to set up as vendors, display their work, interact with customers, and gain experience selling their creations.

• Gallery opportunities: The possibility of showcasing their artwork inside Summer's Art Studio & Gallery.

• Commissions & pricing: Learning how to price artwork, communicate with customers, and understand commissioned projects.

• Art shows & competitions: Exploring local exhibitions, juried art shows, and creative contests.

• College & career preparation: Discovering artistic career paths and understanding how portfolios can support future educational opportunities.

• Scholarship opportunities: Exploring available scholarships and support through our nonprofit organization.

 

Our goal is to help every student leave with not only stronger artistic skills, but also a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them.
